Sendohira Lock In Use for 116 Years from the Meiji Period
〜The lock is still in use and it is a beloved piece of historic heritage〜
Sendohira Lock, which was built 117 years ago (1902), is listed by the national government as important cultural property. It is still used to cross between the Kisogawa and Nagaragawa rivers.
Sendohira Lock is located in Sendohira Park. The Kisogawa Library is located next to the lock, where valuable materials relating to river engineering on the Kiso Three Rivers are displayed. More than 2,200 adults and children visit the park each year as part of field trips and excursions, particularly for fourth year elementary school students. (*Booking in advance is required for tours with a guide.)
Kisogawa River Tour Boats are operated by the Aisai City Sight-seeing Association. Guests can experience traveling through the Sendohira Lock with explanations given by a volunteer guide on the boat.
Also, notable nearby sites include the Kisogawa Krippen Groins, which is a Japan Society of Civil Engineers Selected Civil Engineering Heritage site, and the Morikawa Lotus Field.
