Discharge That Doesn’t Come Exclusively from the Dam? Japan’s First Discharge Facility
〜Completion of the Kanogawa Dam renovation project in the first year of the Reiwa era〜
This is Japan’s first tunnel spillway that is able to discharge water without the water passing through the dam itself. The tunnel is approximately 11.5 m in diameter and 458 m in length.
In addition to tunnel spillway, the Kanogawa Dam Tour includes the dam operation room and the interior of the dam body, where visitors are able to see the discharge of water from the low-water discharge facility up close. About 900 people visit the facility every year despite the fact that it is located in the mountains of Shikoku.
