Ishitegawa Dam Water Reservoir for Matsuyama City
〜Only 30 Minutes from the Prefectural Office〜
The Ishitegawa Dam is a multipurpose dam located approximately 10 kilometers northeast of Matsuyama City center. Matsuyama City itself is a center of literary culture, well known as the birthplace of the haiku poet Masaoka Shiki and as the setting of Natsume Soseki’s novel Botchan.
The dam lake that spreads out upstream from the Ishitegawa Dam is nicknamed Shirasagi Lake after the egrets that are associated with Dogo Onsen, one of Japan’s three oldest hot springs. It provides a space for local people to relax, and, depending on the season, to look at cherry blossoms or perhaps camp or fish. Despite being close to a city, the dam offers a rich natural environment.
In addition, a variety of events are held at the site.
