The Sister Dam That Supports Flood Control on the Hijikawa Rive
〜Nomura Dam / Kanogawa Dam〜
The Nomura and Kanogawa Dams are constructed on the Hijikawa River, a Class A river in Ehime Prefecture. The Nomura Dam functions to provide flood control to Seiyo City (located upstream) and supplies tap water and irrigation water to the Nanyo region. The Kanogawa Dam provides flood control for Ozu City and regulates the flow of water for Ozu City (located downstream).
Visitors to the Nomura Dam are able to see the dam operation room and the interior of the dam body, where they will see the discharge of water from the low-water discharge facility up close. All of these experiences are not normally available to the general public. Approximately 400 people visit the facility every year.
In addition to the tunnel spillway that was completed in July 2019, the Kanogawa Dam Tour includes the dam operation room and the interior of the dam body, where visitors are able to see the discharge of water from the low-water discharge facility up close. About 900 people visit the facility every year.
