〜Powerful Ryumon Dam〜
Ryumon Dam in the only complex dam in Kyushu, with an embankment made of gravity concrete and rockfill (rocks, earth and sand). It is the tallest such dam in Japan.
We offer exciting tours that include towering walls of concrete, a dam management tunnel that's like being in a cave, and much more.
Various boat tournaments are held on the dam lake, including the All-Japan Junior Boat Championships, and events such as the Dam Festa and dam walking are held as efforts to revitalize the community.
In April 2017, the “Making Rice, Memories of the Land for Two Millennia—Tale of Konjaku 'Suito' of the Kikuchi River Basin—” made by Yamaga City, Tamana City, Kikuchi City, and Nagomimachi in Kumamoto Prefecture” was certified as part of Japan’s heritage.
