Amagase Dam

Hiking Up to the Dam While Experiencing a Part of History

〜Experience the looming dam first-hand〜

Amagase Dam is located in Uji city, Kyoto Prefecture, where the Byodo-in temple (a World Heritage site) is located.
We offer hiking tours in cooperation with a local tourism volunteer guide club to see the Amagase Dam, which can be experienced as a tourism resource.

More than 700 people have participated in this hiking tour since 2011.

The “Mori to Mizuumi ni Shitashimu Shunkan,” an eleven-day period of becoming more familiar with forests and lakes, is held every July. During this period, this hiking tour is covered in the public relations magazine as “JR Fureai Hiking.”
During this tour, participants can approach the dam from directly below (normally not permitted), and experience the feeling of the arched dam that seems to press in towards them.

At Amagase Dam, a “dam card” (similar to a trading card) is handed . The third generation of cards is now being handed out..
Printed on this card is the best photo from the photo contest held during the dam’s 50th anniversary in 2014—certainly a surrealistic image.
