Learn About the Nature, Culture, and Disaster Prevention Practices of the Tenryugawa River at the Kawaranbe Tenryugawa River Study Center
〜Note: Kawaranbe means “kappa” (Japanese water spirit) in the local dialect of Ina Valley〜
The Kawaranbe Tenryugawa River Study Center is a disaster prevention center that is jointly operated with Iida City in Nagano Prefecture, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
Under normal conditions, it is used to hold experiential classes and lessons on request, etc. with themes of the nature, history, culture, and disaster prevention practices of the upstream Tenryugawa area for adults and children to enjoy learning. The interior of the Center includes displays relating to the history of flooding and river engineering as well as a library. Conference rooms are also used for local community activities. In addition, the traditional Kawaranbe Festival is held near the end of July each year with activities for young and old.
