Bandai Bridge

Continuing to Support the Lives of Residents Bandai Bridge, an Important Cultural Property

〜Connecting a long 90 year history together with residents〜

The Shinano River is Japan’s longest. The famous Bandai Bridge spans this river. The current bridge, which has also become the title of a song, was completed in 1965.
This bridge is outstanding because it has utility for supporting the development of Niigata, the gateway to the Sea of Japan, strength for withstanding the 1964 Niigata Earthquake, and beauty from its six-arch granite veneer.

It was designated a nationally important cultural property in 2004, and has become a true symbol of Niigata.

The Bandai Bridge Birth Festival is held every August.

It is also a place to disseminate information on infrastructure while reconfirming the achievements and historical value of the Bandai Bridge.
Even now, ninety years after it was constructed, the bridge is loved by the residents of Niigata City.
