You’ll Never Understand until You See This Large-Scale Underground Facility!
〜One surprise after another: The Kamenose landslide tour〜
The Kamenose landslide is located on the prefectural border between Osaka and Nara prefectures.
The landslide that occurred in 1932 dammed up the river and crushed a railway tunnel.
Nearly all measures taken to prevent landslides are structures built underground.
This site features many piles and drainage tunnels within the mountains to stop landslides, which cannot be seen from above ground. Join us in this underground exploration.
During the tour, facts such as the extent of landslide damage and mechanisms involved will be explained in detail using models and panels in the resource room. Visitors can also see facilities used as countermeasures, such as drain tunnels.
You will also see the railroad tunnel (the Kamenose tunnel ruins) that collapsed in 1932, and the illuminated brick construction is also worth seeing.
