The Beautiful Tono Dam—Called the “Heisei Pyramid”
〜Japan’s first stepped spillway can only be seen here〜
Tono Dam is a rockfill dam, composed of compacted soil and rocks. It is sometimes referred to as the “Heisei Pyramid,” because it is constructed from earth and stone like the Egyptian pyramids, and is almost the same volume as the pyramid of the Egyptian pharaoh Khufu.
In addition, the Tono Dam is the only dam at which you can see Japan’s first stepped spillway.
